SaMMI’s Story

STRAIGHT OUTTA LEBURBIA

Sammi’s kitchen was our hangout. In fact, it felt like the whole community came around for a BBQ and feed at one time or another. She was my mum but to the other kids, she was the neighbourhood queen and their second mum. Everyone was welcome and no one ever left hungry.

We were a bunch of spirited burbanite Leb kids and multicultural strays who grew up in the land of red bricks and  sunburnt milkbars with an appetite for 80s/90s Hip-Hop and Sammi’s old-school flavours from Lebanon.

Sammi was a laffa not a fighter —  and still is. While me and my friends had a natural ability for mischief, we always found our way back to Sammi’s open arms, who guided us through every up and down. She’d whip us up a feast and drop dishes with more flava than Lauren Hill and Dr. Dre combined

Today, Sammi’s place is our remastered mix tape of those times. Mum shared all the classic recipes and flavours we loved. We’re not a kebab shop but we’ve got some Gangsta wraps and real home-cooked recipes that will have you nodding your head in approval.

As Sammi would say ‘Ahlan’ we welcome everyone with the same open arms as she did back in the day. So ‘yallah’ habibis, come on over and bring your cousins, mate!
